What better way to improve your performance and technique than with a full week of off-piste skiing and snowboarding. Our off-piste ski courses week is perfect for those looking to really get out into the wilderness on a backcountry ski holiday, and also for those who just want to dip their toe in and improve their technique.
If you're a skier travelling alone or in a small group, you have come to the right place. Welcome to The Ski Gathering — social ski holidays for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities. Meet like-minded and sociable people on a ski holiday that's equally suited to day-one beginners and seasoned veterans alike.
We have decades of combined experience providing first-rate ski holidays. So we understand that a first solo ski trip can seem a little daunting, especially if you're travelling alone as a solo skier. Well, we're here to help. At The Ski Gathering, you won't be on your own — you'll be sharing with other guests who are in the same boat as you.
As with any shared chalet, all guests enjoy breakfast around the same time. Your lift pass has been delivered to the chalet so, whenever you're ready, just head for the slopes. World-class off-piste skiing awaits...
The week will comprise of 4 hours of skiing in the morning with the instructors (from 9 am to 1 pm), on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. There will be a day off on Wednesday, and the instructors will lead the group on a full day of off-piste adventure on Friday.
The choice is yours: ski with the group or do your own thing. Some like to form small groups of similar experience levels or interests; others like to strike out on an adventure of their own. It's completely up to you.
Join the others for aprés ski in the resort centre, or head back to the chalet to get the first slice of the afternoon cake. We'll all have dinner together. Grab a drink with the rest of the gang, or hit the hay ready for a big day tomorrow.
The single-occupancy supplement is generally the biggest headache for individual skiers travelling alone. Usually, solos have to pay a premium for the empty bed, making ski holidays unaffordable for most singles and solo skiers. With The Ski Gathering, you'll be sharing a room so there is no single supplement. Sharing a triple or quad room, you pay slightly less than those sharing a twin.
We have partnered with an amazing local ski school to bring you a comprehensive course designed to bring your snow skills to the next level. This "introduction to off-piste" week is designed to really elevate a competent skier and help them gain more control off-piste. The course includes a full 22 hours of instruction throughout the week.
With La Plagne's excellent snow coverage and access to high-altitude glaciers, off-piste adventures are usually well within reach. However, for your safety, the final decision on off-piste guiding will depend on suitable snow and weather conditions. In the event that conditions are deemed unsuitable, the ski school will adapt the guiding to make the most of on-piste terrain instead.
Finding yourself at a plateau in your skiing progression? Adverse snow conditions a challenge? Our off-piste week is the gateway to the whole new world of skiing. Allowing you to ski faster and more accurately on-piste and with more control and competence off-piste this week will redefine how you view the mountain and backcountry.
There is a clear focus on teaching you to deal with a wide variety of snow conditions confidently. This is all done under the watchful eye of fully qualified experienced instructors. This course zeros in on the tactics and techniques required to successfully navigate powder, steeps, bumps and also a bit of freestyle.
Most days will comprise of 4 hours of skiing in the morning with the instructors. These are normally done on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. On the Friday, the instructors will lead the group on a full day of off-piste adventure. There will be a day off on Wednesday. The afternoons are free to do as you please.
This course is designed for solid confident capable on-piste skiers. It is important that you have the ability and fitness levels required to participate in this course. These requirements will be enforced by the instructors and anyone who does not meet their criteria will not be allowed to participate. A reasonable level of fitness is required but this will be built on during the week.
You are required to be either a level 6 or level 7 skier to join the off-piste week. This means you should be a competent all piste (Blue / Red / Black) skier. You should have advanced skills in parallel turning and be comfortable on reds and blacks. You should have skied at least 8 times or more. You should be able to handle small moguls and a light amount of off-piste. You should aim to start feeling pretty fit.

A solo ski holiday or single ski holiday is a ski trip where you can spend a week skiing and socialising with other people just like you. People who love to ski (or want to try it) but, for whatever reason, they don't have a group to ski with this year. For some, that's a choice: the skiing creates an opportunity to meet new people and that's exactly what they're looking for. For others, it a more pragmatic choice: they want to ski but their friends or partner can't make it this year. Either way, a solo ski holiday is a great way to enjoy the mountains and meet new people. We say it's company when you want it, freedom when you don't.
Yes. Your holiday will be hosted by a mature and experienced ski-industry professional who knows the local area and knows how to make a social holiday start off on the right foot. Your host is the social glue that binds the ski group together. On the first evening, they will be there to break the ice and make sure everyone feels welcome, relaxed and at home. This all happens naturally over a few welcome drinks: there's no cringey organised fun or ice-breakers. Our hosts are just there to put everyone at ease and make everyone feel welcome. When choosing our partner companies and hosts, we only work with people who share our passion for bringing together groups of sociable people who want to have a great time in the mountains.
No. The Ski Gathering does not offer "dating ski holidays" or "ski holidays for singles", as such. Instead, we tend to think of our ski trips as shared chalet holidays for individual skiers and sociable solo travellers.
You will be sharing the chalet with other independent travellers just like you, plus perhaps some groups of two or three skiers who already know each other but would like to mix with others. There will be a full range of abilities from day-one beginners to seasoned veterans of the slopes.
No. There are no formal or pre-arranged group activities. Nobody telling you how to have fun. It's totally casual. Meet other friendly people and do whatever makes a ski holiday awesome for you.

No. Solo skiers and snowboarders share a room so there is no single supplement to pay. A simple solution to an age-old problem. Read more...
That's up to you! Many of our chalets offer single rooms. But they're in short supply, so book early if you want to have your own private space. For most people, though, the social holiday experience does involve sharing a bedroom. Depending on your chalet, you can choose from twin, triple and quad bedrooms. The more people you share with, the cheaper your holiday is likely to be. Some people like to share with a few people and enjoy the banter. Others prefer to have a bit more space. It's totally up to you. See all chalets...
Airport Transfers are typically not included in our chalet prices though this does vary from resort to resort, we are very happy to arrange your transfers for you.
The best time to arrive (when possible) is some time in the mid afternoon of the first day. If however you need to arrive in resort at another time we will do our best to accommodate you. The reason we recommend mid afternoon on the first day is because it give you an excellent chance to meet the other guests
No. Unless specified otherwise (e.g. on a single parents' holiday) there are no children on our social ski holidays — we specialise in adults-only ski holidays. One exception to this is our "Just Ski" offering. Just Ski is not a social ski holiday and doesn't involve sharing with other solos. Instead, it appeals to people who just want to travel alone, ski alone, and share a chalet with non-solos, possibly including families with young children.
Everyone is welcome, but these weeks are a great opportunity for skiers and boarders looking for a new challenge to really take it to the next level on the mountain and in the backcountry.
Awesome ski week! Have had many ski trips in the past but never solo to a chalet, initially unsure what to expect but more than exceeded expectations. Whole group friendly fun and ski/boarded together everyday all over the resort. Chalet hosts really welcoming to cosy modern and well catered meals.
